At St. Stephen’s ELCA, we have been operating our food pantry in the community for the past few years. One day when shopping for the pantry at Walmart, one of our parishioners was standing in line to check out the many cans of beans that would supply our shelves for those in need. The woman behind the register asked our parishioner what was the reason for all the canned goods? She answered her that it was for our food pantry at St. Stephen’s. The woman behind the register began to smile and told our parishioner, “I went to that pantry just before I got my job here at Walmart. I don’t know what I would have done without the help of St. Stephen’s in providing food for my family in those difficult days. It was such a blessing!”
While we have been feeding and providing groceries for hundreds of families in our community for several years now, hunger and even homelessness is greatly increasing in our community. It is our prayer that we never have to turn anyone away because of lack of groceries. Like Jesus in Luke 15:32, “…I have compassion, and I do not want to send them away hungry.” At St. Stephen’s, we are finding the need is out pacing our ability to keep up with those who are hungry. Therefore, we are reaching out to our neighbors for support to help those in need.
You can help! And your support is key in helping us to continue to feed and provide groceries to those who are hungry! Would you consider making a donation that would help make a difference in this community?
In Matthew 14:16, “Jesus said to them, ‘They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” We pray that no one goes hungry! And, we thank you in advance for any help that you can provide.
